Transportation

Transport of materials and personnel to construction sites is greatly reduced by use of pre-fabricated steel construction technologies. Transport of materials and personnel in construction is responsible for 10% of all vehicle movements in the UK and 40% of the energy used in construction is related to transport of materials and products. Steel construction can reduce these impacts.

For example:
transport movements to create inner skin of 10 houses

Masonry = 40 lorry loads
        20 to factory
        20 to site

Light Gauge Steel (Fusion) = 6 lorry loads
        1 to factory (inc. insulation)
        5 to site
